In the past few years, more and more Media channels have been throwing the spotlight on independent artists and events - connecting audiences and artist as well as giving a place to the arts for content diversity on their platforms. This session explores the various reasons underlying this shift - is there a growing demand for such content, or are more and more Media outlets emphasizing their individual roles as cultural tastemakers? What are tangible steps the independent artist can take to get air time / draw Media attention to their content?

    Geoffrey Thomas is a radio professional with over 20 years of experience. He was instrumental in setting up  Radio Indigo, India's first all English private FM station in the country, and joined Chennai Live 104.8 FM as Chief Programming officer. Some of the major properties of Chennai Live 104.8 FM include the Band Hunt - the 5th season is scheduled for Feb 2018 - and the Voice Hunt earlier this year, designed to identify talented singers in the city. Chennai Live 104.8 FM also supports and features independent artists on the station. During his 5 year sabbatical, he founded Amaranta Entertainment - which invested in, produced and promoted artists doing original music. It curated The Music Festival  (TMF) for the last 4 years - an independent music festival in Chennai. Amaranta Entertainment also owns a recording studio called "The Dome”.
